Madison Gaines of Hagerstown, MD, attended the Washington Journalism and Media Conference in 2016 and fell in love with the welcoming environment. Madison’s experience at WJMC is the reason she chose to attend George Mason University in the fall of 2017. In high school, Madison was the Drum Captain of the Williamsport HS Blue Band, the starting goalkeeper of the Varsity Soccer team, and the Secretary of the Math Honor Society Mu Alpha Theta. She was also on the Academic Team, the Indoor and Outdoor Track team, and a two-time Global Finalist Destination Imagination team. Madison is an Intern as a Communications and Media Specialist for the nonprofit organization For Otis’ Sake, which works with animal shelters. Madison’s free time is devoted to making bad jokes, reading and rereading books, and writing poetry.
