Amanda Gard

Junior Faculty Advisor

Amanda Gard was a national youth correspondent of WJMC15 and is currently in her second year at the University of Florida. She studies telecommunication production with an outside concentration in sport management. She is a freelance technical director for the SEC Network where she works on the broadcasts of UF sports. Amanda is also a multimedia captain for Dance Marathon and the communication’s director for the Make-A-Wish team in Chi Omega. She is extremely excited to return for her second year as a JFA to meet the correspondents of WJMC18, and hopes they are ready for the best week of their life!

Angelica Walker

Junior Faculty Advisor

Angelica Walker is a WJMC 2014 Alum from Lynchburg, Virginia. She is currently a Junior Communications major at George Mason University. She double minors in Sports Communications and African and African American Studies. On George Mason’s campus, Angelica is heavily involved in both the Black Student Alliance and the Mason Ambassadors. Elysse Vernon

Elysse is a junior at Florida State University studying Public Relations and Political Science. She currently serves as the Director of Communications for both the FSU National Organization for Women and the FSU College Democrats. She previously interned for the Florida Clerks of Court and freelanced for Womensenews.org. Elysse couldn’t be more excited to return to WJMC for her second year as a JFA!

Elise Kenney

Junior Faculty Advisor

Elise Kenney is returning for her third summer at WJMC, after being a correspondent and then an intern, she so excited to be coming back as a Junior Faculty Advisor. Elise is currently a rising sophomore at Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts, and is majoring in Political Science. Originally from Orono, Maine, WJMC inspired her to start a newspaper in her high school. Some of her favorite memories from WJMC include meeting Senator Susan Collins and C-SPAN founder Brian Lamb. One day, she would like to be president of the United States, but before that she wants to be a campaign manager.

Maggie Campbell

MAGGIE CAMPBELL

Junior Faculty Advisor

Maggie Campbell is a rising senior at Ohio University studying journalism and a Washington, D.C. area native. She attended WJMC as a correspondent in 2014 and has served as a Junior Faculty Advisor since the summer of 2017. While at Ohio University she has been active in the campus Society of Professional Journalists and the student-run publication The Post. This past year she served as president of OUSPJ and was a copy editor, social media contributor, and member of The Post’s investigations team. She has covered issues such as education, facilities, and sexual assault in schools. Maggie has previously been recognized for her public affairs reporting by the Central Ohio chapter of Society of Professional Journalists. Maggie is looking for toward to a great summer of watching aspiring journalists grow and discover D.C.

Nathan Crawford

Junior Faculty Advisor

Nathan Crawford is a rising junior in the Honors College at George Mason University. He is studying Communication with a double concentration in Journalism and Political Communication. After attending WJMC in 2015, Nathan returned in 2016 as an intern, and again in 2017 as a JFA. At Mason, he is heavily involved in the Office of Admissions. He serves as a Mason Ambassador, a Telecounselor, and is a member of both the Welcome Team and Honors College Recruitment Team. In addition, he will be a Resident Advisor (RA) next year. Nathan aspires to one day be a broadcast journalist and anchor morning news. He looks forward to being part of WJMC for the fourth year and play a small role as the new correspondents explore their love for journalism. Hunter Ince

Junior Faculty Advisor

Hunter Ince is a rising sophomore at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. He is majoring in Film-Television-Digital-Media with a concentration in Sports Broadcasting. Hunter has dreamed of being a sports broadcaster for ESPN his entire life. At TCU, you can find him serving as camera and crew man for many sporting events that’s of course when he isn’t in the library studying. Aside from journalism and studying, Hunter is a member of Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI), a mentor for College Student For A Day, and also works as a Student Assistant for the Athletic Administration. Hunter attended the Washington Journalism and Media Conference in 2015 and returned as an intern in 2016. He is excited to come back to WJMC as a Junior Faculty Advisor and get the opportunity to help guide students in finding their path in the journalism field.

Courtney Boone

Junior Faculty Advisor

Courtney is a rising senior at George Mason University studying forensic psychology with a dual-minor in journalism and criminology. She is a sister of Gamma Phi Beta and writes for their international leadership magazine. She is also senior editor for Her Campus George Mason. Courtney plans to attend law school after graduation to study either libel and defamation law or sports law.

Chelsey Shirley

Junior Faculty Advisor

Chelsey is elated to be returning for a fourth year at WJMC. She is a senior (hallelujah) at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia, where she will be graduating with her Bachelors in Journalism from the Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication in December 2017. When Chelsey isn’t calling her beloved Dawgs in Sanford Stadium, she can be found on pretty much every corner of campus. Currently, she is a reporter and anchor for Grady NewSource, the live, student-run newscast for Northeast Georgia. After graduation later this year, she hopes to find a job as a Multimedia Journalist/Reporter at a small market television station where she will be able to put her current emphasis of study to use. WJMC captured her heart when she attended as a high school senior in 2013 and loves the magic of seeing kids excel at WJMC every summer.

Kailey Beth Smith

Junior Faculty Advisor

Kailey Beth Smith is a sophomore at Auburn University studying Journalism and Political Science, and pursuing a minor in Philosophy and Religion. Smith is the Community Reporter for the Auburn Plainsman, the most highly decorated student newspaper in the United States. Smith attended the 2015 Washington Journalism and Media Conference as a National Youth Correspondent from Mobile, Alabama. Her time at the conference changed her perspective on news and modern culture, and ignited a passion within her to pursue storytelling as a career. Smith covers weekly local events, and regularly covers city council meetings. She covered the controversial Richard Spencer visit to Auburn University last spring, and she produced pieces on racism in the south and within the school system.
She was featured by Alabama Media Group for an opinion piece on the Mobile Azalea Trail Maids in December of 2015. She is an active member of the Auburn Wesley Foundation, a United Methodist student ministry, where she leads bible study and serves on the Prayer and Devotional Life committee. She enjoys reading, writing, hand-lettering, and photography. She is a firm defender of the Oxford comma, and maintains a special talent for consuming a magnificent amount of espresso throughout her day.
