Dustin Tant

Dustin L. Tant is from Chester, South Carolina and attended WJMC in 2018. He is currently a junior at York Preparatory Academy, and once he graduates high school, he plans to attend college and get a degree in journalism and political science. Politics is his passion in life, and he has been involved in politics since he was a freshman in high school. Dustin is currently the office manager for Victory South Carolina in the 5th Congressional District. He loves what he does and wants to continue this type of work!

Kelsey Olson

Kelsey was born in raised in Fresno, California and attends Kingsburg High School. She is a part of the Mu Alpha Theta math team, is volleyball team captain, and is the head editor of the school newspaper, The Viking Voice. Kelsey has played a long time role in the production of the newspaper and is currently the media and color coordinator for The Viking Voice. Olson attended WJMC in the summer of 2018. She intends to peruse a degree in Government International Relations and Law with the end goal of being a political journalist and author. Olson is excited to shape the future of WJMC!

Anna Medina

Anna Medina is a senior at Lawrence County Christian School and a dual enrollment student at Calhoun Community College. She is very hardworking and focused, and she is currently working two jobs. Anna is proudly the secretary of her school’s beta club this year. In the future, she plans to major in architectural design and minor in journalism.

Cate Burgen

Cate Burgan is a part of the graduating class of 2019 at Harpeth High School in Kingston Springs, TN. She plans to attend Northwestern University in the fall and pursue her passion of journalism, culture, and the environment. One of her favorite quotes by Ray Bradbury reminds her daily to keep her ambitions high: “Do what you love and love what you do. Don’t listen to anyone else who tells you not to do it. You do what you want, what you love.”

Jenna Wang

Jenna Wang is a junior at Iowa City West High School working as an editorial editor and reporter for The West Side Story newsmagazine. When she isn’t busy with articles and homework, Jenna enjoys creating dancing videos for her YouTube channel, working with the Seoul Connections K-Pop Dance Club, writing short opinions/stories, singing all the time, and is a big supporter of Asian American representation in mainstream media. She’s apart of the LA Times High School Insider as a student advisory board member and is now excited to be apart of the Youth Advisory Board for WJMC after having an awesome experience at WJMC 2018.

Sydney Skemp

SYDNEY SKEMP

Sydney Skemp is a high school senior from La Crosse, Wisconsin. Sydney enjoys writing, singing, dancing, and spending time with loved ones. She also loves the outdoors and being out on the water, which in her case is the Mississippi River. In her spare time, you can find her reading or writing, or expressing herself through other various art forms.

Rory Daly

RORY DALY

Rory Daly is a student in the Class of 2019 at Woodlawn School in Mooresville, North Carolina. Having been interested in journalism for quite some time, his experience at the Washington Journalism and Media Conference allowed him to explore this interest, and confirmed it as something he is deeply passionate about. This year, he will be working on a Capstone project to do with print media transitioning to the digital age. He hopes to benefit from and help more with the program with this role.

Zia Sampson

Zia Sampson is a senior at Brentsville District High School in Nokesville, Virginia. She is the Managing Editor and Business Manager for her school paper, The Roar, and is a student writer for CollegeXpress.com. In her free time, she enjoys playing with her two dogs and four cats, reading, cross stitching, and watching Netflix. She is hoping to major in mass communications with a focus in journalism.

Baylie McCallister

BAYLIE MCCALLISTER

Baylie McCallister currently resides in Boise, Idaho. She is the president of her school’s marketing department and is the social media manager and marketing intern at two domestic abuse shelters in Boise! Baylie prides herself on being a coffee connoisseur, and she is also a published writer. Baylie looks forward to being on the YAB this year!

Jacquelin Kent

Jacquelin Kent is a national youth correspondent for WJMC ’18 and is representing Columbus, Georgia. She is currently a senior at Shaw High School and will continue her passion for journalism and media in college. Jacquelin absolutely loved her time at George Mason University and being a part of WJMC ’18. She loves everything surrounding journalism and media, and soon aspires to inspire those that love it as much as she does! Kent is looking forward to help contribute in making WJMC 2019 even more amazing than the previous years!
