WJMC CODE OF CONDUCT

National Youth Correspondents and their guardians agree to the WJMC Code of Conduct upon registration for the program. The Code of Conduct ensures students remain safe, engaged, and feel a sense of community and foster an atmosphere of respect during the Conference. Students who violate the Code of Conduct are subject to immediate dismissal from the program and will forfeit college credit and tuition paid.

PROGRAM PARTICIPATION

All students are expected to participate in all scheduled program events and remain with the WJMC students and staff at all times in order to receive college credit. Students should actively participate in site visits, simulations, and speaker events and engage with other students and staff during the Conference for the most rewarding experience.

SIMULATION

The WJMC simulation allows students to take what they have learned at WJMC and develop a project or participate in a role-playing exercise that introduces them to the strategic thinking and decision-making skills of journalists. This is the most important piece of the WJMC curriculum and is how students are able to share their knowledge and understanding with WJMC staff.

SAFETY POLICIES

All students must fill out pre-conference surveys in order to attend WJMC. Students must provide travel information for arrival and departure to the Conference, as well as medical and dietary information so staff can make necessary accommodations to meet individual student needs.

The WJMC program schedule is fast-paced and jam-packed. Unfortunately, we will not have time for parents/guardians/friends/anyone outside the program to visit students while in the DC area. If you would like to have another person besides a guardian pick up on departure day, make a note in the travel survey so WJMC staff have that information for check-out.
