The Washington Journalism and Media Conference

LEARN WITH WJMC

The WJMC program and curriculum changes each year as the news cycle shifts and as new current events arise. Our program is designed to have relevant content so that students are ready to dive into journalism and media.

The speakers and staff work with students to meet them where they are, support their ideas, and answer their most intense questions.

FIND OUT WHAT YOU'LL DO

The WJMC experience is designed to immerse students in the world of journalism and introduce them to relevant and complex issues our world is currently facing. Through site visits, speakers, and insider access, students gain the knowledge needed to begin or enhance their journalism and media learning journey.

MEET THE EXPERTS

WJMC welcomes world-renowned, award-winning experts in the fields of journalism and media. Speakers offer participants unparalleled advice based on real-world experiences both inside and outside of the field, creating a unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience.

GET EXCLUSIVE ACCESS

Through visits to the National Press Club and locations around D.C., students experience firsthand what it’s like to pursue journalism and media careers. Students connect directly with journalism and media experts through our unique partnerships and behind-the-scenes access.

GET IN ON THE ACTION

Students experience WJMC in small groups led by Faculty Advisors who are experienced teachers in journalism and yearbook. They guide students during the week and work closely with their student group through role-playing exercises, putting them in the role of decision-makers as they discover the process of delivering the news.

GET A FEEL FOR THE SCHEDULE

The WJMC schedule is intense! It packs in the program speakers, site visits, simulations, and group discussions so that students get the most out of their time with us. It is important for students to get the rest they need at night and be prompt and present during the day. The week is nonstop, but our alumni say it’s worth it!
