Alexa is a rising junior at Point Loma Nazarene University, majoring in nursing. She sees how the media and journalism play a role everyday in the medical field, and how it affects her role as a future medical professional. Alexa enjoys the beach, tea, art, and staying active!

Sydney Johnson

SYDNEY JOHNSON

Junior Faculty Advisor

Sydney Johnson is a rising senior at George Mason University and is majoring in Communications with a concentration in Journalism and Media Production and Criticism.  Sydney is an Assistant News Editor for The Fourth Estate, Vice President of the GMU SPJ chapter, and the Social Media Manager for Mason Cable News. Her goal by the end of college is to continue her studies abroad for grad school and become a digital reporter and producer.

Beth Marshall

BETH MARSHALL

Faculty Advisor

Beth Marshall, C.J.E., M.Ed., advises yearbook and teaches Journalism, English courses, and a dual credit course, Introduction to Mass Commuciations at Richmond-Burton Community High School in Richmond, Illinois. She has been teaching and advising journalism for 10 years, and she has taught English for more than 30 years. She is a Certified Journalism Educator, and she earned her M.A.Ed. in Journalism Education through Kent State University in 2020. She was also selected to attend the 2019 CSJ Advanced Advising Workshop at Kent State University in Ohio. Beth’s yearbook staff has earned numerous state awards including IEA Best Overall Yearbook and All-KEMPA recognition as well as first class ratings from the NSPA. Beth is the president of the Kettle Moraine Press Association, which works with scholastic journalism students and their teachers throughout Northern Illinois and Wisconsin. Beth is excited to return to WJMC.

Nithya Cheruvu

NITHYA CHERUVU

Nithya Cheruvu is a junior at Ardrey Kell High School in Charlotte, North Carolina.  She is a varsity basketball player who enjoys traveling, cooking, gaining new experiences, and meeting new people. She volunteers through the Assistance League of Charlotte and is a member of her school’s DECA club. She aspires to be a sports reporter or a political journalist. Nithya attended WJMC in 2021 and is grateful to the program for helping her find her passion. She can’t wait to help others find what they love to do and is excited to be a part of the WJMC staff.

Ruth Campos

RUTH CAMPOS

Ruth Campos is a Junior from Manassas Park High School in Virginia.  At 16 years old she currently sits as Treasurer of the Junior Class Council, a leader of the schools Media Club, and NHS member. Currently she is known as the schools all-around events photographer and is excited to continue her journey with the WJMC.

Ciara Keen

CIARA KEEN

Ciara Keen is a junior at Chatham High School in Chatham, Virginia. She attended WJMC in the summer of 2021. Ciara is the drum Major of the school’s marching band and she is a member of the FCCLA. Her experience at WJMC was amazing and life changing. One of her favorite moments was when she was able to meet new people from all parts of the country.

Stella Turner

STELLA TURNER

Stella Turner is a high school junior from Fairfax, Virginia, where she is a part of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program and National Honors Society at Meridian High School.  She has been writing for her school newspaper, The Lasso, for three years, and has been an editor for the last two. She has also been a member of her school’s GIVE Day Service Club for six years and is currently Co-President of Meridian’s Young Democrats Club, where she leads and participates in discussions about current events and politics. She enjoys photography and playing volleyball, and wishes to study government and politics in college before pursuing a career in public service. As a WJMC 2021 alumna, she hopes to utilize her experiences to further improve those of future National Youth Correspondents at George Mason.

Elizabeth Stone

ELIZABETH STONE

Elizabeth Stone is a senior at Chantilly High School in Fairfax, Virginia.  She has been a part of many student publications and is currently an executive producer for her school’s broadcast journalism program. At WJMC, she loved connecting with other students over their shared interests. The program inspired her to pursue a career in media, and her next step will be studying journalism at James Madison University.

Haley Richardson

HALEY RICHARDSON

Haley Richardson is a junior at the Union County Vocational Technical High School in the Academy of Law and Justice.  After her experience at the Washington Journalism and Media Conference (WJMC), she found a new passion for journalism and a determination to be a part of the field. On the Youth Advisory Board, she would like to use her organization skills and discipline to help plan the 2022 conference, and hopefully help make such a beneficial program a positive life-long memory for next year’s correspondents.

Alex Radt

ALEX RADT

Alex Radt is a proud alum of the 2021 Washington Journalism and Media Conference and is looking forward to serving on the 2022 Youth Advisory Board.  They got their start in journalism in fifth grade, in Belgium, and continued through moving to Maryland, Virginia, Japan, and back to Virginia. They are currently a junior at Alexandria City High School and the editor-in-chief of the school’s magazine.
