George Mason University is proud to host the Washington Journalism and Media Conference (WJMC). WJMC is a week-long experiential learning program for highly engaged high school students. As National Youth Correspondents, students will experience an integrated and forward-thinking approach to journalism and media while acquiring valuable “in-the-trenches” knowledge. Curriculum includes hands-on learning with industry leaders, award-winning journalists, international media outlets, and Washington insiders.
Each summer, WJMC welcomes National Youth Correspondents from all over the country. These students join the Mason community, which includes students and faculty from all over the world. Mason is both the largest public university in Virginia and one of the most diverse universities in the nation.

“My time at the WJMC Journalism Conference was very eye opening for me. I learned so many new things from other youth correspondents, speakers, and even my state representative. Over the week I was able to learn what it takes to be a journalist in this world and what skills I need to have in order to become one. The WJMC Journalism Conference really pushed me out of my comfort zone. I was able to make friends with people from different states and months later I still find myself talking to the correspondents in my color group.”
